What's the difference between Sheet and Plate?
The short answer is thickness. While steel sheets and steel plates are sometimes produced using different processes there are some overlapping features. Steel sheets are produced from very thin sizes, such as 26 gage, all the way through 1" thick. (3/4" and 1" thick sheet steel are uncommon as the majority of sheet steel is only produced up to 1/2".) Steel Plate is produced from 3/16" thick through 30" and more.
