Hot Rolled Steel Plate Supplier
Hot Rolled Steel Plate is mainly produced at large production, high-capacity rolling mills across the US and the world. With multiple grades, hot rolled steel plate is an excellent choice for further processing techniques such as pickling and oiling (P&O), annealing, quenching and tempering (Q&T), normalizing, stress-relieving, and shot blasting. As hot rolled plate offers a greater surface area than bar steel, it is commonly found in large manufacturing projects that require significant coverage with minimal gaps including shipbuilding, machine building, construction projects, and endless fabrication applications.
Hot Rolled Steel Plate production using slabs includes the following steps:
1. Feeding slabs into reheating furnaces
2. Reheating
3. Feeding to the mill stands and rolling in several passes
4. Leveling at a leveler
5. Cooling at cooling beds
6. In-line non-destructive testing
7. Trimming the longitudinal edge and ends
8. Cutting to length
9. Finishing and testing
This extensive production process allows Hot Rolled Steel Plates to be classified by their accuracy of size, flatness, and edge type (mill edge or trimmed edge). ECONSTEEL provides hot rolled steel plates to meet customer specifications for thicknesses ranging from just 3/16" up to 22". Depending on the end use, the plate can measure between 48" and 96" in width and from 60" to 480" in length. These impressive capabilities ensure that ECONSTEEL's high-quality hot rolled steel plate meets customer demands for every project.

FAQs
Can I get hot rolled steel plate cut to size?
ECONSTEEL can cut hot rolled steel plates to any size or shape regardless of specified widths or lengths. For any custom size request, simply supply your drawing or a .dxf file.
Will hot rolled steel plate always be oversized?
No, this is not always the case. Hot rolled steel plate can run up to .01" underside. Tolerance over the requested size depends on the thickness of the plate. For additional questions, consult with your ECONSTEEL Sales Associate or use the ECONSTEEL Resources page.
What pattern size can I get?
Standard pattern sizes are 4' x 8', 4' x 10', 5' x 8', 8' x 10' and 8' x 20'. Depending on the thickness of the hot rolled steel plate there may be availability in 5', 6 or 7' widths. Your ECONSTEEL Sales Team can help you determine availability.
How much stock is needed for burned plate?
Your best bet is to give your finished dimensions to your ECONSTEEL Team and let them know what your finish requirements are. We will then ensure you receive parts you can use. Please keep in mind that whenever a plate is burned there will be a Heat Affected Zone (HAV). With thin plate, this may only be about 1/16" per side however on heavier plates (6" and over) this could be as much as 1/8" per side (1/4" overall). This area will have small cracks, the chemistry can be affected and the physical properties may be altered. If you need a clean finish or there may be wear on the edge of these parts you will want to clean up beyond the HAV. In addition, you need to consider the burn tolerance which will be larger the thicker the plate is.
