What is expanded metal used for?
Expanded Metal is commonly used for machine safety guards, glass window security, safety screens, and metal baskets. As it allows the free passage of light, liquid, and air it is a suitable material for catwalks or drains. Additionally, expanded metal can be used in fences or decorative applications, and even flattened expanded metal can be used in prison environments as fencing.
What size sheets are available for expanded metal?
Routinely available pattern sizes for expanded metal are 48" x 96" and 48" x 120", however, other sizes may be available. Consult with your ECONSTEEL Sales Team to get all the options available to you.
Can ECONSTEEL show me samples of pattern sizes?
Yes. Stop into our Erie office. We have may sample sizes available for you to view.
Is expanded metal available only in carbon steel?
No, this is not true. In addition to standard carbon steel, expanded metal from ECONSTEEL is also readily available in stainless steel and aluminum.
What is the difference between standard and flattened?
All expanded metal begins as standard expanded metal as it comes off the mill. This product has part of the strand overlapping another to form a raised edge. This can be very good for creating a surface with more
grip and better slip protection. Flattened expanded metal is put through a cold rolling mill to flatten out the sheet. Which works better for you would be largely dependent on your
application.
